The illegal possession or use of alcohol or drugs will not be allowed. Neither drinking of alcohol beverages nor illegal use of any controlled substance (drugs) is allowed by any person on school property or at any sponsored function, either home or away. No student who has been drinking alcoholic beverages or who is illegally under the influence of a controlled substance is allowed on school property. Possession of alcoholic beverages and illegal controlled substances is prohibited on school property by any person. In the event of a violation of this policy, the following steps of discipline will be taken:
1. First Offense: The student will be automatically suspended (in-school) for not less then five days nor more than ten days. Any suspected violation of state law will be reported to law enforcement officials. Parents of students will be contacted and a conference arranged as soon as possible.
2. Second Offense: A second offense will result in a ten day suspension (out-of-school) to be followed by a hearing before the Board of Education. Counseling and/or rehabilitative programs are available from many sources.
The counselor can help any student receive professional assistance. Counseling/rehabilitative programs may be used in conjunction with penalties.
